Totally Tuxed

Tuxedo rentals

Apr 5, 2012 - 04:57 PM

It's one of the enduring gender injustices. Women have to buy the dress; man can rent the tux.

When she looks stunning at the altar it's partly because someone spent a fortune on what she's wearing, and chances are she'll never put it on again. When he looks killer hot, he'll never wear the clothes on his back or the shoes on his feet again either, but the whole ensemble might have set him back $150 for the day.

That's a swing of several hundred to several thousand dollars in his favor. But then no one said life, or a wedding, is always fair and, if he has daughters, some day he'll pay.

If you're going to a Wine Country wedding and you need a tux in Sonoma, there are two sources serving the vast majority of Valley males: Eraldi's Men's Wear & Shoes, the venerable and beloved family business right on the Plaza, and the ever popular Crown Cleaners & Formal Wear just a couple of blocks away.

Tuxes typically run from $80 to $150, including a vest, with shoes and accessories extra. Virtually every conceivable size is available in a wide variety of styles in both black and white.

You will be wise not to wait until the last week to place your order, although Dan Eraldi says his supplier is in nearby Hayward, making last-minute glitches easy to correct.

So when Lady Love (or her parents) bemoans the cost and complexity of finding the perfect gown,  the wise groom will be careful to avoid looking too smug.
